A Studio Between

A Studio Between is a London and international based studio working between interiors and architecture, furniture and design. Founded in 2022, the studio moves across hospitality, living, and the arts, shaping spaces that feel personal, soulful and artful.

Each project is an exploration in atmosphere, bridging the practical with the poetic.

People

The studio is founded and led by Richard J McConkey, formerly Head of Hospitality at Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby’s Universal Design Studio. With over two decades of experience, he has shaped award-winning spaces for global clients including Villa Copenhagen, Frieze Art Fair, Mulberry, Ace Hotel, and At Six in Stockholm.

Internationally minded, but localised in approach, he has completed projects in Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Copenhagen, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, and London, amongst others.

Now, as A Studio Between, Richard leads a close-knit team of architects and designers working in dialogue with clients, developers, makers, and curators to craft sensorial, material-rich and enduring spaces. Team, past & present, whose support and contribution has been invaluable:

Current projects

The studio is currently engaged in a range of projects from global consultancy for an arts organisation, to a private residence for an arts publisher and writer, and a 220-room hotel with over 2,000 square metres of publicly accessible spaces in a major European capital.

Across all scales, the studio’s ambition remains the same: to produce the exceptional, but in a quietly radical way.
