As part of our Frieze commission, Sessions Arts Club returns for its second volume. Conceived in collaboration with Jonny Gent & Russell Potter of SAC as a dramatic refuge from the intensity of Frieze London, the restaurant space draws on themes of the primal, cinematic light and tactile form.

Using light as its primary material, the space is transformed. Lined in weights of canvas, the fabric creates soft enclosures of deep diffused shadow, ranging from cool to amber light. Internal timber facades, referencing modernist spatial structures, draw in light from different aspects.

Within the spaces, long-time collaborator Hattie Fox’s sculptural and abstract botanical installations interact with the facades as a surreal echo of cave flora, blurring the line between still life and space.

Dark brown bentwood chairs, white tablecloths and minimal brass lighting link to the feeling of a grand dining room, textural and unfinished. At once raw and refined, the restaurant becomes a moment of pause, intimacy and escape.

Gloss surfaces and monolithic displays become plinths for restaurateur Jonny Gent’s numerous collaborations, including Drake’s, Lost Wines, Tekla and Completed Works, amongst others.
